Loading...Enna is located in the center of Sicily on a hill about 931 meters (3054.46 ft.) above the sea level, the ancients tribes they called it the impregnable city.
Enna is a very small city and the most important thing to see is the castle in the city center and la Rocca di Cerere.
The most shocking thing about Enna is that everywhere you walk in between the winding little roads you will always have a breathtaking view of the valley.
There are certain glimpses of the Etna volcano which is located far away, Caltanissetta and the entire beautiful valley.
Enna is a very cute and nice Sicilian city and you should visit it, the main reason why is that it is so different from the cities located on the beach.
The city center of Enna is quite awesome, and the top things to see are the Belvedere e Rocca di Cerere where a view sweeps over Calascibetta, a beautiful medieval village, important place of Sicily, including the Nebrodi peaks.
Unfortunately, almost nothing remains of the temple of Demeter that stood on the summit of the fortress.
Castello di Lombardia is one of the biggest castles in Sicily and the view from there is awesome. You can see a picture down below and you should definitely visit it if you like medieval stuff.
The castle is still well preserved and the view from there is pretty much breathtaking.
The Duomo di Enna of Enna was entirely rebuilt after a fire and inside there are frescoes and paintings on canvas from important people.
Palazzo Pollicarini is one of the oldest and most historic buildings in Enna, dating back to the 16th century. The structure has a Gothic-Catalan style and for several years was the fortified residence of the Falanga, Petroso, and Patelmo families, while it is currently inhabited by other local families.
Villaggio Bizantino is a rock settlement located a few kilometers from Enna, a symbol and testimony of the Byzantine domination in the Sicilian territory followed by the Arabs.

Not too far from Enna, you can find piazza Armerina which is a masterpiece of a city for the roman Domus you can find in there. It is very common to find people selling you yummy prickly pears in this town and you should try them.
Nicosia is also a little town with over 50 churches, there are more churches than houses basically and it is very worth a visit.
The most famous and typical dish from Enna is called the Frascatula, which is a polenta based on cereal flour, mixed sometimes with legume flour, and cooked in water in which different vegetables have been previously boiled so that it will take the taste and color you see in the picture below.
Polpettone in milk or meatloaf is a traditional Sunday dish and involves a long preparation. At the base of the meatloaf, there is bread crumbs, or stale bread, which can be softened in milk.
The Buccellati is an excellent Christmas cake. Also called Cucciddatu, its traditional shape is a donut, the Christmas cake par excellence, but today it is also prepared at other times of the year and in different smaller shapes, Buccellati or Cucciddatini.

Enna is a pretty small and awesome city located exactly in the center of Sicily at an altitude of 931 meters (3054.46 ft.) that will guarantee a nice view all the time.
The castle and the cool and calm city center are definitely worth a visit. You can spend one day in Enna or more if you like great food, in fact since the city is not super touristic food will be traditional, cheap and awesome.
Not too far from Enna, you can find piazza Armerina which is more frequented by tourists because of the roman Domus you can find in there.
Enna can be visited by a walk with ease and you can find places to eat everywhere.
Very popular are the prickly pears that can be found everywhere in the wild and people will sell them on the street.
Be careful when you peel them because the little thorns are very annoying in the fingers. If you like to see a completely different Sicilian city go ahead and visit Enna.
