Loading...Livorno is a city overlooking the sea that people tend to skip when visiting Tuscany. However, this is a beautiful city full of beautiful things to see and do.
If you are looking for a relaxing city with not a lot of tourist that can offer a nice and fresh sea balcony from Terrazza Mascagni go visit Livorno.
Livorno is one of the most modern towns in Tuscany, not a lot of medieval and old stuff can be found here.
It was considered one of the biggest ports in ancient times in the whole of Europe. In fact, this city is all about the sea and the port.
You can still see a fortified city with beautiful walls and Bastioni that gives this city the Italian look we were looking for.
There is a quarter called la Venezia that reminds you of Venice and Amsterdam with all its beautiful canals and boat floating on it.
There are many attractions in Livorno, but definitely the one that brings us most of the joy are the beautiful beaches, the port, and the canals.

The first step as mentioned before is The Mascagni terrace, a beautiful balcony on the sea created with prestigious tiles.
Then you want to go to the Statua Dei Quattro Mori, which is the symbol of the city and place where a lot of people gives appointments.
Then you want to go to the Venice quarter, a lot of boats, canals and beautiful flowers can be seen here in Livorno and you will feel like in Venice.
On the hills you can find the sanctuary of Montenero, the view from there is outstanding and you must take a look at it for sure.
It is very common to find snow up there in the winter and see the sea downhill from the Montenero hill.
The Moresque room in the Museo Civico of Livorno is a masterpiece from the Hebrew ages of Livorno.

Fortezza nuova and Fortezza vecchia are also nice to see, these two fortresses are majestic and nice to look.
The central market if you have time and you want to taste something good from the area is a must-visit. The market is huge and there is stuff for everyone.
Meloria Islands is 3 miles from the pier of Livorno and it’s an island in the middle of the sea with a nice tower on it.
Seafood is king in Livorno, you can find all the best fish for kind of cheap and there are certain dishes that are famous worldwide.
Who never heard about the Cacciucco?
Caciucco is a fish stew native from Livorno that will make you understand that fish outside of Italy is shit!
Once you go Cacciucco you never go back!
This dish is very tasty and you can smell and taste the flavor of the sea. The fish is fresh and stewed in a way that will give you goosebumps.
Livorno is not all about Caciucco, there are many other succulent dishes you can taste, and according to me if you can eat only fish in livorno it would be a good choice.
There are a lot of Americans in Livorno because of the US military base, Italian adapted to them and you can easily find American sandwiches in bars to make them happy.
The Cecina cake is a salty cake made with chickpeas, you can find it in bars and restaurants and it’s full of proteins and taste good.
