Vicenza is an hour drive from Venice, and if you are lucky to have a car you will need to pass by Padova as well.
Both Vicenza and Padova are very similar and worth a visit. Vicenza is a very important city in Italy, a lot of factories and money are running there.
The city is mainly flat, there are no hills like in Padova, but not too far driving you can find mountains and lakes.
The main reason why you should visit Vicenza are the beautiful architectures from Palladio, interesting museums and arts.
If you running out of the time you should visit both Vicenza and Padova in one day, even though it would take you way more to explore them.
If you go to Vicenza by train you will immediately find a beautiful park next to the station called Giardini Salvi.
You can get the first taste of Palladio there looking at Loggia Valmarana.
If you are going by car or by bus you can start roaming in the city center and start looking at the magnificence of the monuments and building.
Then you could walk to the temple of San Lorenzo, this is a very nice temple with interesting statues inside.
Something worth a trip to Vicenza alone is the Teatro Olimpico, a majestic theatre with a roof completely in masonry.
The theatre was designed by Palladio and once you get inside you will be shocked at how perfect it looks. It is similar a Roman amphitheater but it’s all inside.
The civic museum also is a nice place to go to learn something new and look at the beautiful Affreschi on the ceiling.
Something incredible beautiful is also the Gallerie d’Italia di Palazzo Leoni Montanari.
You will be able to see prestigious arts from the Veneto region and beautiful statues and fresco painting on the ceiling.
One of the most important works ok Palladio is Villa La Rotonda, someone says that it reminds of the Pantheon in Rome.
The structure of the building is close to perfections and still, millions of visitors are going each year to visit this building and studying is beauty.
The Villa is not in the city center but it will be easy to reach with public transportation or if you have a car.

Food in Vicenza is very simple compared to the one you can find in the other provinces of the region.
The city of Lumignano just out of Vicenza is a good asparagus producer so if you like food with asparagus Vicenza ain’t bad.
A fun fact about Vicenza is that in the middle ages, people there were very poor, meanwhile, now they are pretty rich. People from Vicenza was called “Magna Gatti” literally “cat eater”.
They didn’t eat any cat but the real poor ones probably they did.
One of the tastiest typical dishes is the gnocchi with asparagus if you are in Vicenza get your mouth to bit this dish. YUM.
If you want to taste typical food from Vicenza, as often you will have to deal with a menu written in Dialect and not in a tourist place.
