History and Origins of Fiorenzuola

Fiorenzuola di Focara has a rich history that dates back centuries. The village was named after Saint Fiorenzo, the patron saint of navigators, and its history is deeply intertwined with the sea. Originally a fishing village, Fiorenzuola di Focara has evolved over time into a quaint seaside town known for its tranquility and charm.

The city of Fiorenzuola is famous because one of the most important poets Dante Alighieri, the one who wrote the Divine Comedy passed by this little town and got hooked on its beauty. In fact, at the entrance gate of the city center, you will see a tag mentioning Dante. You will find other signs about Dante on the way down to the beach since he apparently loved this spot, Dante then died in Ravenna and this is where you will be able to find his tomb.

Natural Beauty in The Area

One of the most captivating aspects of Fiorenzuola di Focara is its natural beauty. The village is perched on a hill overlooking the Adriatic Sea, providing breathtaking panoramic coastline views. Visitors can take leisurely walks along the rugged cliffs, explore the lush Mediterranean vegetation, or simply relax on the pristine beaches below. In the summer of 2017, there was a massive fire, no one knows what happened but most vegetation and hills were completely burned leaving only the ashes and a black look to the whole beautiful scenery.

The beach and the city were closed to the public for more than 2 years and now they have rebuilt a nice park on the street that goes down to the beach and everything looks stunning again. If you want to hike to a cool place, driving on the road that goes from Pesaro to Rimini, just after Fiorenzuola to the right you will be able to find “Il Tetto Del Mondo“, a unique spot on the beach, on a cliff with wild horses hanging on it.

Be sure to try the Brodetto, a traditional Adriatic fish stew, and savor it with a glass of crisp white wine while overlooking the sea. There are not so many places to eat in town since the city is very small but the two I recommend are Osteria Focara and Ristorante la Rupe.
